OP 7200L: Spinal Orthotics Laboratory 1 Credit Hours Concurrent: OP 7200 This laboratory course presents comprehensive orthotic patient care management of the spine and cranium through the evaluation, measurement, design, fabrication, fitting, alignment, and rectification of custom and prefabricated orthoses. These orthoses include a variety of conventional metal/composite frames and thermoplastic spinal and cranial orthoses.
Course Learning Outcomes Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
- Evaluate a patient with a condition of the spine for orthotic treatment.
- Formulate a prescription and recommend a treatment plan for patients who require spinal orthotic intervention.
- Demonstrate the ability to cast, fabricate, fit, and adjust a spinal orthosis for a patient in need.
- Employ safe laboratory and clinical practice (i.e., proper use of equipment and tools for clinical patient assessment, impression taking, positive model rectification, fabrication, fitting, and adjustment (i.e., universal precautions, PPE, etc.)
