OP 7800: Clinical Practicum in Prosthetics and Orthotics IV 2 Credit Hours Prerequisite: OP 7500 This course focuses on business skills related to running a medical practice. Students engage in leadership and management exercises specific to a prosthetics and orthotics practice, discuss and critique billing practices, work on effective communication with other medical professionals, and present strategies for in-services.
Course Learning Outcomes Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
- Develop patient interaction skills.
- Evaluate a patient and formulate a recommended prescription and treatment plan for patients who need a prosthesis or orthosis, appropriately bill and justify this device.
- Employ safe clinical practice (i.e., proper use of equipment and tools for clinical patient assessment, universal precautions, PPE, etc.)
- Present and review Case Studies.
- Create an in-service presentation for rehab team members (e.g., PT, nurse, orthopaedic surgeon).
- Apply appropriate leadership and managerial skills in the workplace.
- Employ teamwork skills and strategies to solve problems.
- Resolve workplace conflicts dealing with difficult patients and employees.
