Program Description

The purpose of the STEM Education Endorsement Certificate is to develop knowledge and expand ability for teaching STEM through authentic integration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The program involves a nine-credit hour sequence with field experiences, collaborative learning, and community-based engagement. The courses focus on planning for, implementing, and reflecting on equitable STEM teaching practices and strategies that center student-driven learning through open-ended, complex problems. The certificate aligns with an in-field certification through the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC).

Program Student Learning Outcomes

Students who successfully complete this program will be able to: 

  1. Explain the nature and process of STEM as an interdisciplinary endeavor including its use to answer questions and investigate problems aligned with K-12 content standards and its broader societal benefits.
  2. Plan and implement STEM lessons, units, and assessments that engage students in ways of thinking used in STEM and apply pedagogical practices specific to STEM-related disciplines relevant to the grade-level. 
  3. Interact and collaborate with STEM teachers, peers, STEM experts and local STEM business to develop authentic STEM learning experiences for students.

The program is approved by the GaPSC.

Admissions, Enrollment, and Graduation Criteria

Admissions Criteria

The following are program-specific criteria beyond the general Graduate Admissions  requirements. To be considered for admission to this program, the following application materials must be submitted to the KSU Graduate Admissions Office:

  • Must possess a renewable Georgia teaching certificate. Candidates who have completed all requirements for the Georgia level 4 teaching certificate have until the end of the first semester to obtain certification. 

Enrollment Criteria

This program does not have specific enrollment requirements. 

Graduation Criteria

Each student is expected to meet the requirements outlined in Academic Policy 5.0 PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS & GRADUATION
