Program Description

The Ed.S. Degree with a major in Educational Leadership provides candidates with the content knowledge necessary to meet PSC requirements for Tier II Educational Leadership Certification. The program is in accordance with the educational leadership standards and outcomes required of licensure in Georgia by the Professional Standards Commission. Admission is open to any individual who meets the admission requirements of the Education Preparation Provider (EPP). Admission to and completion of the Tier II program will not lead to additional pay until employed by a Local United of Administration (LUA) in a leadership position that requires Tier II certification. 

Program Student Learning Outcomes

Students who successfully complete this program will be able to:

  1. Develop, advocate, and enact a shared mission, vision, and core values of high-quality education and academic success and well-being of each student.
  2. Act ethically and according to professional norms to promote each student’s academic success and well-being.
  3. Strive for equity of educational opportunity and culturally responsive practices to promote each student’s academic success and well-being.
  4. Develop and support intellectually rigorous and coherent systems of curriculum, instruction, and assessment to promote each student’s academic success and well-being.
  5. Cultivate an inclusive, caring, and supportive school community that promotes the academic success and well-being of each student.
  6. Develop the professional capacity and practice of school personnel to promote each student’s academic success and well-being.
  7. Foster a professional community of teachers and other professional staff to promote each student’s academic success and well-being.
  8. Engage families and the community in meaningful, reciprocal, and mutually beneficial ways to promote each student’s academic success and well-being.
  9. Manage school operations and resources to promote each student’s academic success and well-being.
  10. Act as agents of continuous improvement to promote each student’s academic success and well-being.

Admissions, Enrollment, and Graduation Criteria

Admissions Criteria

The following are program-specific criteria beyond the general Graduate Admissions  requirements. To be considered for admission to this program, the following application materials must be submitted to the KSU Graduate Admissions Office:  

  • Master’s degree or higher in education or a related field
  • Valid GaPSC-issued PRL Tier I or SRL Tier II Leadership Certificate
  • Evidence of passing GACE Leadership Ethics (passing certificate must be uploaded with the application)
  • Leadership Mentor Form - Mentor must hold GaPSC Tier II Leadership Certificate
  • Superintendent & District Agreement Form - Completed by the superintendent or a proxy, indicating system-level support for entry and progression through the program
  • Resume indicating a minimum of four (4) years of teaching or administrative experience

Note: Candidates must serve in a leadership position at either the P-12 school or local education agency or a regional educational service agency that will enable the candidate to fully meet the program’s residency requirements. A partnership agreement shall be established with the employing LUA, agency, or organization of each enrolled candidate to ensure candidates can meet Tier II level residency requirements. 

Enrollment Criteria

This program does not have specific enrollment requirements. 

Graduation Criteria

Each student is expected to meet the requirements outlined in Academic Policy 5.0 PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS & GRADUATION .  

PSC Program Completion Requirement 

In addition to completing the degree, the candidate must attempt the Georgia state approved content exam prior to KSU’s submission of the PSC Approved Program Completion form.  The PSC requires passing Georgia state approved content exam scores to add Tier II Leadership field and leadership upgrade to the candidate’s PSC certificate.
