Program Description

The Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) program is designed to enhance career options in the management, performance, and integration of information technology systems for current and future IT professionals. With several focus areas such as IT security, Data Analytics and Intelligence, AI and Cloud Technology, and Enterprise IT Management, the MSIT program prepares graduates with the skills to advance into IT careers, take on leadership roles in the industry, or pursue research and further academic studies in the field of information technology.

Program Student Learning Outcomes

Students who successfully complete this program will be able to: 

1. Analyze a complex problem and apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to elaborate solutions to it. 

2. Design, implement, and evaluate a computing-based solution to meet a given set of requirements in the context of the IT discipline. 

3. Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts.

4. Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in computing practice based on legal and ethical principles.

5. Function effectively as a member and leader of a team engaged in activities appropriate to the IT discipline.

Admissions, Enrollment, and Graduation Criteria

Admissions Criteria

The following are in addition to the general Admissions  requirements: 

  • Resumé/Vita required. Include your education background and work experience if applicable.
  • Statement of purpose. One or two pages essay describes why you want to apply and why you are a good candidate for this program.

A Streamlined Admission Process

The MSIT program offers a streamlined admission process to students who meet the following criteria:

  • Are a current Kennesaw State University student majoring in a CCSE Bachelor’s degree program.
  • Have an active petition to graduate
  • Have an institutional GPA of 3.5 (or higher) in that major upon graduation

Students who have the above qualifications will not be required to submit secondary documentation that includes a resumé or vita, and statement of purpose.

 

Admission Criteria for Unique Cases

Conditional Admission

The MSIT program requires students to have fundamental knowledge in IT foundation courses.  A student with insufficient background may be conditionally admitted. Conditions may be fulfilled by successfully completing foundation coursework or successfully completing foundation modules offered by  KSU Community and Professional Education (CPE) as a condition of full admission. A student can satisfy the prerequisite conditions for MSIT in one of the following two manners:

1) By completing up to four designated foundation courses.

2) By completing up to four designated foundation modules offered through KSU CPE. 

  • Programming - Python
  • Computer Networking
  • Fundamentals of Database
  • Fundamentals of Web Technology

Transfer Credits

A student may transfer a maximum of six semester hours of graduate courses from a regionally accredited college/university. The transfer of credit for course work completed at another institution will be approved only under the following conditions: 

  • A minimum grade of “B” was received in the course; 
  • The content of the course corresponds to that of a course required or permitted in the student’s program at Kennesaw State University; 
  • The credit to be considered for transfer will not be more than six years old at the time the student enters KSU.

Enrollment Criteria

This program does not have specific enrollment criteria; however, students are expected to meet the requirements of Academic Policy 4.0 ACADEMIC STANDING, DISMISSAL, & REINSTATEMENT .

Graduation Criteria

Each student is expected to meet the requirements outlined in Academic Policy 5.0 PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS & GRADUATION .
