Program Description
The Minor in Latin American and Latinx Studies provides a solid foundation for understanding contemporary Latin American society and Latinx communities more broadly. To achieve this goal, this minor offers a range of courses that examine the history, politics, economics, culture, and languages of the Latin American region. The program also emphasizes community engagement and study abroad experiences. The minor is especially useful to undergraduates who wish to deepen their understanding of Latin America as well as Latinx peoples residing in the United States.
Students cannot satisfy the Core IMPACTS requirement with LALS 1102 .
Program Student Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this program will be able to:
- Identify and distinguish pre-Colombian and contemporary Latin American indigenous cultures.
- Examine the impact of global and historical forces such as colonialism and neoliberalism on Latin America.
- Compare and draw connections between Latin American geopolitics and U.S. Latina/o/x communities.
- Examine the impact of migration in the development of U.S. Latina/o/x communities.
- Interpret how race, class, and gender operate in U.S. Latina/o/x communities.

This program does not have specific enrollment criteria; however, students are expected to meet the requirements of Academic Policy 4.0 ACADEMIC STANDING, DISMISSAL, & REINSTATEMENT .
Graduation Criteria
Each student is expected to meet the requirements outlined in Academic Policy 5.0 PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS & GRADUATION .
