Program Description

A minor in Japanese aims to offer learner-centered courses consistent with the Department of World Languages and Cultures’ dual emphasis on linguistic skill building and teaching content throughout the curriculum. Students need to complete 15 credit hours of Japanese, of which a minimum of six (6) must be taken in residence at KSU. Advanced speakers of Japanese should consult with the Japanese Program advisor about testing options using the Advanced Standing examinations available in the Department of World Languages and Cultures.

Program Student Learning Outcomes

Students who successfully complete this program will be able to: 

1. Communicate in presentational, interpersonal, and interpretive modes in both oral and written discourse. (Language Proficiency)

2. Discuss selected literary and cultural products, practices, and perspectives of the target cultures and the connections among them. (Cultural Understanding)

3. Apply critical thinking and collaborative problem-solving abilities through task-based language activities (i.e., oral presentations, summaries, term papers, creative videos, curriculum vitae, reports, note taking, etc.). (Professional/Career Readiness Skills)

Enrollment Criteria

This program does not have specific enrollment criteria; however, students are expected to meet the requirements of Academic Policy 4.0 ACADEMIC STANDING, DISMISSAL, & READMISSION.

Graduation Criteria

Each student is expected to meet the requirements outlined in Academic Policy 5.0 PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS & GRADUATION .
