Program Description

The Bachelor of Applied Science with a major in Information Technology is designed for students who have an Associate of Applied Science in computing from a member institution of the Technical College System of Georgia. The courses that you have completed for your AAS will transfer as a block, and you will be required to take an additional 94 credit hours (or approximately 3 years of full-time study) to obtain the BAS degree. 

Program Student Learning Outcomes

Students who successfully complete this program will be able to:

  1. Analyze a complex computing problem and to apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions.
  2. Design, implement, and evaluate a computing-based solution to meet a given set of computing requirements in the context of the program’s discipline.
  3. Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts.
  4. Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in computing practice based on legal and ethical principles.
  5. Function effectively as a member or leader of a team engaged in activities appropriate to the program’s discipline
  6. Identify and analyze user needs and to take them into account in the selection, creation, integration, evaluation, and administration of computing-based systems.

Accreditation

The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology program is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org. The BAS in Information Technology was reviewed & accredited in 2016.

Admissions, Enrollment, and Graduation Criteria

Admissions Criteria

Admission to the Information Technology B.A.S. degree is separate from admission to Kennesaw State University. Students must meet the program requirements below to pursue this degree program:

  • Earn an AAS in a computing field with a GPA of 2.30 or better from a TCSG college to transfer into the BASIT program.

Enrollment Criteria

Progression through the program requires students to successfully complete or transfer the equivalent of IT 1114 IT 1114L CSE 1321 , and CSE 1321L  with a minimum grade of “C” or better in all four courses.

Graduation Criteria

Each student is expected to meet the requirements outlined in Academic Policy 5.0 PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS & GRADUATION

Information Technology majors should take MATH 1111: College Algebra  or higher in Mathematics and Quantitative Skills and MATH 1113: Precalculus  or higher in Technology, Mathematics, and Sciences.

Other options are available, please see an advisor for details; however, selection of other options in IMPACTS  may lengthen time to graduation.

Core Field of Study (18 Credit Hours)


Students must earn a grade of “C” or better in these courses with the exception of CSE 1321 CSE 1321L CSE 1322 , and  CSE 1322L , in which a grade of “B” or better is required.

Technical Block (21 Credit Hours)


The Technical Block requires 21 credit hours of CIS/CIST courses from the student’s A.A.S. or A.A.T. degree.

Major Electives (3 Credit Hours)


Students must earn a grade of “C” or better in these courses.
