Program Description
The Minor in Film Studies provides a broad background in moving image media, art, and entertainment. Along with courses in film analysis, history, and theory, professional training is also offered at various levels in story development, screenwriting, and TV writing. The minor offers interdisciplinary coursework that serves as a credential for students interested in graduate study or in working in the educational, commercial, or entertainment industries, whether locally, nationally, or internationally.
Program Student Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this program will be able to:
- Analyze a film, television show, or media artifact according to its narrative content, audiovisual form, genre conventions, and representational strategies.
- Develop a sense of the cultural, sociohistorical, ideological, commercial, and technological importance of certain moving image texts, media studies discourses, and international film and television movements.
- Articulate the relationship of certain films, television shows, artists, and national, cultural, and sexual identities to different schools of media theory.
- Produce analyses, scripts, treatments, and pitch presentations for short and feature-length films, web series, and television shows.
