A Geographic Information System is a computer-based system which provides information using geographically-referenced data. Computerized maps of various data (e.g. demographics, statistics, soils, vegetation) are overlaid to produce useful geographic information to decision makers. GIS can provide valuable locational information used for planning. It is an essential tool in urban and regional design, marketing and industrial location, environmental systems analysis, and in providing government services.

Students must earn a ”B“ or higher grade in each of the required courses.

Applications for admission to the program are available in the Department of Geography and Anthropology.
