ECE 6650: Yearlong Clinical Experience I 3 Credit Hours Prerequisite: ECE 6620 , ECE 7514 , and ECE 6630 . Concurrent: EDUC 6610 Under the guidance of a collaborating teacher and university supervisor, the intern completes a full-time teaching experience at a designated school. The experience requires working in a co-teaching environment with K-5 learners, including students with exceptionalities and with students who are English learners. It includes regularly scheduled professional seminars.
Note: Proof of professional liability insurance is required prior to school placement.
Course Learning Outcomes Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
- Demonstrate understanding and skill in the use of the discipline knowledge in all aspects of planning for instruction and assessment while meeting students’ varied needs.
- Understand the relationships among and between the content disciplines as they apply to construction of integrated, interdisciplinary, and thematic instruction.
- Use key organizing concepts of the academic disciplines as well as principles of curriculum and design, problem solving, independent thinking, and decision-making skills in planning for instruction and assessment while meeting students’ varied needs.
- Use principles of classroom management, culturally and linguistically relevant education, developmental patterns, exceptionalities, and other learner characteristics to create and maintain an environment that facilitates student learning.
- Use principles of learning, motivation, and assessment to choose appropriate diagnostic procedures, materials and referral processes in the classroom.
- Demonstrate skill in selection and use of appropriate instructional methods and materials, including media and technology to enhance learning.
- Work collaboratively in planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs and instructional effectiveness.
- Use practical and reflective thought processes to continually evaluate the effects of instructional strategies on student learning.
- Communicate effectively and accept multiple points of view in collaborative relationships with colleagues, parents, and students.
- Demonstrate familiarity with professional ethical standards related to teaching and relationships with peers, parents, and professionals.
