TLED 9880: Conducting Topical and Theoretical Literature Reviews

3 Credit Hours
Prerequisite: Admission to the EdD in Teacher Leadership.
This course is designed to guide students through the process of preparing a comprehensive literature review for their research. The course emphasizes the development of skills necessary to identify, analyze, and synthesize relevant scholarly literature. Students will learn to critically evaluate existing research, identify gaps in the literature, and frame their research questions within the context of current academic discourse. By the end of the course, students will have a well-developed literature review that supports their research proposal.

Course Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:

  1. Use various research databases and tools to Identify and locate relevant scholarly literature.
  2. Critically evaluate and synthesize existing research to identify key themes, debates, and gaps.
  3. Develop a coherent and logically organized literature review that supports their research.
  4. Articulate the theoretical and conceptual frameworks that underpin their research.
  5. Demonstrate advanced academic writing skills, including proper citation and referencing.
  6. Present and defend their literature review in a scholarly manner.
