OP 7700: Upper Limb Prosthetics 3 Credit Hours Concurrent: OP 7700L This course involves comprehension management of upper limb prostheses for patients with sustained limb loss from the fingertip to the entire shoulder girdle. The students will utilize a variety of control mechanisms and obtain the knowledge needed to assess patient care in a wide array of upper limb designs.
Course Learning Outcomes Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
- Identify and display knowledge of normal upper limb anatomy and joint osteo-kinematics and relate to the design, creation, and fitting of upper limb prostheses.
- Execute a patient evaluation methods (interview, medical history taking, physical examination), accurately record information, and interpret findings for a person with trans-radial and trans-humeral amputation.
- Classify principles and methods of prosthetic prescription formulation (identification of biomechanical and functional movement problems) and formulation of a solution (treatment plan) for a patient with an upper limb loss (focusing on a person with trans-radial and trans-humeral amputation).
