OP 7100L: Assistive Technology Laboratory 1 Credit Hours This laboratory course introduces theories and devices associated with assistive technology and mobility aids, emphasizing topics important to clinical practice in prosthetics and orthotics.
Course Learning Outcomes Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
- Identify relevant legislation that impacts individuals with disabilities.
- Identify assistive technology (AT) interventions that are used in conjunction with orthoses and prostheses and/or in rehabilitation therapies.
- Describe the role of robotics in rehabilitation as it relates to functional improvement in mobility.
- Describe the current state-of-the-science in rehabilitation robotic systems.
- Define the different types of gait patterns (e.g., swing too gait) used with various mobility aids (i.e., crutches, canes and walkers).
- Describe the indications for specific types of walking aids (i.e., crutches, canes and walkers).
- Understand the use of mobility aids proficiently enough to explain and teach the techniques to an individual (i.e., crutches, canes and walkers).
