OP 6950: Research Seminar in Prosthetics and Orthotics I

1 Credit Hours
The seminar introduces the foundational concepts of scientific inquiry, emphasizing interdisciplinary research, responsible conduct of research, ethics, internal review board processes, and planning. Students begin scientific and technical writing of specific aims and hypothesis formulation related to their research. Students critique, present, and discuss literature reviews of critical clinical and scientific papers. 

Course Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to: 

  1. Identify the fundamental principles and concepts of the scientific method.
  2. Select a research topic for independent scientific research.
  3. Identify a clinically relevant measure for quantification for biomechanical studies as it relates to prosthetics, orthotics and rehabilitation.
  4. Interpret the importance that a basic knowledge of research has on clinical practice.
  5. Write and orally present a research proposal and plan.
