OP 6000L: Prosthetics and Orthotics Processes and Methods Laboratory

1 Credit Hours
This course introduces clinical methods and basic processes associated with the provision and fabrication of prostheses and orthoses.   

Course Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to: 

  1. Identify methods to establish patient rapport and trust.
  2. Describe methods to conduct a basic patient interview and systems oriented medical history.
  3. Recognize the correct documentation for a clinical interaction and treatment plan.
  4. Employ appropriate methods of hand washing and use of personal protective equipment.
  5. Describe and interpret safe methods in acquiring and assessing vital signs and examining function of peripheral vasculature in the lower limbs.
  6. Demonstrate safe practice for palpation of body structures and skin examination.
  7. Demonstrate safe methods of testing groups of muscles, goniometry and range of motion of lower limb joints (hip, knee, ankle/foot complex)
