SW 7911: Interprofessional Collaborative Practice

3 Credit Hours
Prerequisite: Admission to the MSW program OR permission of the MSW Program Director.
This course is designed to provide graduate students with an opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities essential for interprofessional professionalism on collaborative teams in diverse practice settings including educational, social, and health-care agencies, organizations, and institutions.

Course Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to: 

CLO 1 Identify and understand the IPEC competencies to case studies, simulation, and field experiences.

CLO 2 Effectively navigate process for collaborative practice on Interprofessional teams with applying the following skills:

  • CLO 2.1 Identify the ethical role and responsibilities of each member of the interprofessional team. Compare and contrast the roles and related skills of professionals engaged in the interprofessional team.
  • CLO 2.2 Identify the characteristics of effective communication, as well as barriers to effective communication, among interprofessional team members.
  • CLO 2.3 Analyze conflict management strategies that are important to the success of the interprofessional team.
  • CLO 2.4 Ensure that all processes are client/consumer focused by partnering with these stakeholders consistently.

CLO 3 Effectively apply and evaluate their growth in the essential skills for Interprofessional Professionalism (IPP):

  • CLO 3.1 Identify the constructs and domains for interprofessional communication and teamwork.
  • CLO 3.2 Assess strengths and areas of improvement in applying the components for interprofessional professionalism on interprofessional teams through case studies, simulations, and field experiences in healthcare and non-healthcare settings.
