PRWR 6730: Digital Tools for Diverse Writing

3 Credit Hours
This course introduces students to corpus-driven (computer-assisted) tools for analyzing and incorporating different registers of language use in professional writing. The course may include such topics as teaching and running workshops for linguistically diverse writers in industry and academia; using different dialects and languages in creative writing genres; and working with multilingual audiences in international workplaces.

Note: This course may be cross-leveled with LING 3030. 

Course Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to: 

1. Recall concepts related to composition, applied, and creative writing pedagogies for linguistically diverse populations.

2. Design a course or workshop series and plan instructional activities for linguistically diverse populations.

3. Evaluate a given piece of writing and articulate various types of feedback on it.

4. Use a corpus approach to analyze literary or technical works, identify language patterns of a given genre, and provide functional interpretations.

5. Apply corpus analysis skills for students’ own rhetoric and composition, applied writing, or creative writing projects, such as generating a job application letter or a novel chapter.
