INCM 8604: Nonviolent Resistance 1 Credit Hours Prerequisite: Admission to a KSU graduate program or permission of instructor. This course provides an overview of the different approaches to nonviolent resistance found in literature (pragmatic vs. principled) and the theoretical concepts underlying the strategies and tactics used by scholars and nonviolent activists. In addition to the theoretical component, the course provides some practical nonviolent skills, including sessions on nonviolent communication and other active learning exercises exploring the challenges of practicing nonviolence in conflict situations.

Course Learning Outcomes Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
- Understand the theoretical concepts underlying nonviolent action.
- Identify the range of nonviolent approaches and types of tactics and be able to compare and contrast them.
- Discuss the pros and cons of a range of nonviolent strategies and tactics in specific contexts.
- Design a nonviolent action using concepts learned in class including identifying pillars of support, identifying the spectrum of allies and selecting appropriate methods.
