ME 6340: Advanced Acoustics

3 Credit Hours
This course introduces topics such as vibrations of extended systems, transverse waves on a string, the one-dimensional wave equation, etc. The course is largely related to vibrations, acoustics, and wave equations. It helps students to learn the concepts of wave equations, plane and spherical waves, decibels (sound pressure levels), and acoustic reflection and transmission through fluid interfaces.

Course Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:

  1. Exhibit an ability to identify, formulate, and solve advanced mechanical engineering problems in acoustics.
