ECE 6630: Classrooms, Families and Communities 3 Credit Hours Prerequisite: Admission to the Teaching, MAT with a concentration in Elementary Education This course provides an overview of the ways that teachers build awareness of students’ home backgrounds to create supportive learning environments and achieve academic and developmental outcomes. The course activities can include: observations of classrooms, interviews, discussing teachers’ practices, reading research, and designing lessons. Key topics may include: applying principles of the Funds of Knowledge, asset-based pedagogies, and analyzing school-based efforts for collaboration with families and communities.
