DS 9900: PhD Dissertation Research

1-9 Credit Hours
Prerequisite: Progression to candidacy and permission of the instructor.
This course includes dissertation writing under the direction of the major professor (dissertation advisor). The course is taught using a non-traditional format of independent research and preparation of the doctoral dissertation.

Course Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to: 

  1. Demonstrate a range of skills appropriate for an independent researcher in data science or analytics.
  2. Present their research substantively in written form through a series of iterative drafts.
  3. Accept and incorporate feedback from advisor and committee members into written drafts.
  4. Demonstrate consistent progress in their research and writing by continuously producing written work.
  5. Successfully present their dissertation research in a dissertation proposal defense/dissertation defense to a public audience.
