STAT 7125: Analysis of Human Studies 3 Credit Hours Prerequisite: STAT 7210 and permission of the instructor. Real-world human-subject data will be used as students conduct official clinical research in a secure computer lab. Students will complete required institutionally-approved training for research on human subjects and information privacy and security. Using statistical software, students will apply statistical analysis and modeling techniques to answer questions posed by clinicians and practitioners. Students will document research for reproducibility and potential publication, as well as present results in various forms.
Course Learning Outcomes Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
- Learn how to conduct literature reviews and summarize clinical literature research.
- Create and execute an analysis plan with little supervision.
- Conduct appropriate statistical analyses related to human subject data to answer clinical questions using statistical software and interpret results.
- Learn to direct and advise on the analysis of human studies within a team framework and how to implement best practices of reproducible research in practice.
- By working in teams, students will demonstrate the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with each other and members of other teams, using SAS/R code and providing appropriate documentation.
- Create a publication quality report, including appropriate background literature review, description of study methods, and results.
- Use a large, contemporary dataset to answer specific questions, mirroring the real-world process of using data to conduct research.
