WLC 4409: Capstone in World Languages and Cultures

3 Credit Hours

Prerequisite: Senior Standing.
This Capstone course is designed to synthesize and connect students’ prior academic experiences in the major and related fields of study. Students prepare a Final Portfolio, which includes a career readiness component, as their capstone project.


Course Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:

  1. Speak, listen, read, and write at the Intermediate High level (French/German/Italian/Spanish) and the Intermediate Low Level (Chinese). (Language Competence)
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of the (literary and cultural) products, practices, and perspectives of the target cultures and the connections among them. (Cultural Competence)
  3. Demonstrate critical thinking and collaborative problem-solving abilities through task-based language activities (i.e., oral presentations, summaries, research papers, creative videos, curriculum vitae, internship reports, etc.) (Professional Skills/Critical Thinking & Expression).
  4. Connect their academic experience to their personal and professional lives. (Connecting Learning to Life)
