GRMN 4101: Topics in Intercultural Competence

3 Credit Hours

Prerequisite: GRMN 2001 
In this course, students examine knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop intercultural competence in the context of German-speaking cultures. Guided discussions and analyses of real-world situations prompt learners to explain behaviors and apply theoretical models, concepts, and communicative codes. Students engage in cross-cultural comparisons and develop skills in interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational modes of communication.


Notes: This course will be taught in German.

Course Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to: 

  1. Examine authentic materials in German cultural contexts.
  2. Analyze cultural products, practices, and perspectives in cross-cultural comparisons.
  3. Communicate effectively and appropriately in presentational, interpersonal, and interpretive modes.
  4. Develop collaboration and communication skills via team-based tasks and projects.
