ISD 4497: Community Exchange

Prerequisite: Any B2: Cultural Perspectives course
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, each student will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of intercultural competencies needed in today’s global society.
  2. Recognize how culture affects personal and social experiences and values in the community exchange context.
  3. Differentiate between historical and contemporary cultural contexts of the communities involved in the exchange.
  4. Evaluate critically a variety of viewpoints, including their own.
  5. Develop an ethical sensitivity to the role of cultural, social, and political diversity in human thought and action by exploring and responding to others in open dialogue about diversity.
  6. Build capacity in shared problem-solving and decision-making.
  7. Apply skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for effective intercultural communication, multiple perspective-taking, and shared understanding appropriate to the community exchange context.
