ARCH 3011: Architecture Studio V 4 Credit Hours
Prerequisite: (Traditional Track: ARCH 2004 , ARCH 2211 , and ARCH 2311 ) or (Accelerated Track: ARCH 1000 , ARCH 2013 , ARCH 2211 , ARCH 2242 , ARCH 2311 , and acceptance into third year upon portfolio review) This studio emphasizes the importance of conceptual architectural thinking, materiality, and natural daylighting and introduces integration of building technologies within the architectural design process. The majority of the semester focuses on a medium sized, mixed-use project located on a suburban/exurban site.
Course Learning Outcomes Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
- Introduce materiality, tectonics, and “performative” design as a mode of ’architectural thinking’.
- Investigate analogue and digital techniques in the creation of architectonic making.
- Explore contemporary [digital] culture as a design and building project.
- Introduce the notion of interconnected technologies and material research in the design of architectural production.
