PORT 1002: Elementary Portuguese II

3 Credit Hours

Prerequisite: PORT 1001 , or by placement, or the equivalent
Continued listening, speaking, reading and writing in Portuguese with further study of the culture of Portuguese-speaking regions.


Course Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to: 

  1. Analyze a variety of literary and non-literary cultural texts related to Lusophone cultures in the target language.
  2. Identify and interpret significant aspects of Lusophone cultures.
  3. Compare aspects of Portuguese language and Lusophone Cultures with their own language culture(s) and English/U.S. culture.
  4. Eemonstrate an understanding of intercultural issues by identifying appropriate cultural behavior, analyzing the underlying rationales of cultural differences, and applying their knowledge to communicative tasks.
  5. Discuss significant ethical issues within Lusophone societies.
  6. Apply different cultural perspectives to major social and ethical issues.
  7. Evaluate and synthesize significant information about Portuguese language and Lusophone cultures.
