GRMN 4434: Topics in Language, Literature, and Culture

3 Credit Hours

Prerequisite: GRMN 2001 
This course examines contemporary or historical themes in the context of German-speaking cultures. Through structured review, analysis, and discussion of authentic materials, students examine cultural products, practices, and perspectives and the influences that shape them. Students engage in cross-cultural comparisons and develop skills in interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational modes of communication.  


Notes: This course is taught in both English and German.

Course Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to: 

  1. Examine authentic materials in German cultural contexts.
  2. Analyze cultural products, practices, and perspectives in cross-cultural comparisons.
  3. Communicate effectively and appropriately in presentational, interpersonal, and interpretive modes.
  4. Develop collaboration and communication skills via team-based tasks and projects.
