DANC 3500: Pointe/Variations 2 Credit Hours
Prerequisite: DANC 3110 or permission of the instructor. This course develops a student’s pointe skills in dance through the increased technical development and learning of classical variations and repertory. This course is designed to develop the advanced-intermediate level dance student’s ability to apply classical ballet skills into the performance of a variety of pointe variations. May be taken twice for credit.
Course Learning Outcomes Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
- Greater development and refinement of technical skills.
- A deepening of one’s own artistic and performance skills through the learning of a broad range of classical pointe variations.
- Increased growth and improvement within placement, posture, alignment, strength, flexibility, balance, and musicality while working en pointe.
- An understanding of important anatomical and kinesiology-based principles as they pertain to efficient pointe technique and injury prevention.
- Improvement in the ability to observe, learn, and reproduce classical variations with accuracy and commitment.
