DANC 3500: Pointe/Variations

2 Credit Hours

Prerequisite: DANC 3110  or permission of the instructor.
This course develops a student’s pointe skills in dance through the increased technical development and learning of classical variations and repertory. This course is designed to develop the advanced-intermediate level dance student’s ability to apply classical ballet skills into the performance of a variety of pointe variations. May be taken twice for credit. 


Course Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:

  1. Greater development and refinement of technical skills.
  2. A deepening of one’s own artistic and performance skills through the learning of a broad range of classical pointe variations.
  3. Increased growth and improvement within placement, posture, alignment, strength, flexibility, balance, and musicality while working en pointe.
  4.  An understanding of important anatomical and kinesiology-based principles as they pertain to efficient pointe technique and injury prevention.
  5. Improvement in the ability to observe, learn, and reproduce classical variations with accuracy and commitment.
