CHIN 1002: Elementary Chinese II

3 Credit Hours

Prerequisite: CHIN 1001 , or by placement, or the equivalent
This course stresses progressive acquisition of effective communication skills in both the spoken and written language and an understanding of the practices and products of Chinese culture. 


Course Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to: 

  1. Write and speak in simple but correct Chinese by presenting and exchanging information on topics such as school, profession, career, shopping, transportation, etc.
  2. Pronounce words in Chinese in a way comprehensible to a native speaker accustomed to Chinese language learners.
  3. Describe daily routines, preferences, and personal needs in Chinese.
  4. Describe past and future events in Chinese.
  5. Identify and explain basic cultural and linguistic differences between US and China.
  6. Discuss significant ethical issues within and beyond China and analyze literary/philosophical texts in which these issues are expressed.
  7. Identify, interpret, and synthesize significant information about the Chinese language and culture.
  8. Demonstrate an understanding of intercultural issues by identifying appropriate cultural behavior and applying their knowledge to communicative tasks.
