CETL - 105 Implementing NEST Practices for Student Success

The ‘Implementing NEST Practices for Student Success’ micro-credential confirms faculty and staff who teach have examined in depth “Expanding the NEST” practices that cultivate student success. The core principles of student success depend on the quality and meaningfulness of student-faculty interaction, effective teaching practices, and supportive environments.

Earning Criteria:
To earn this micro-credential, learners must:

  • Attend at least two “Expanding the NEST” related professional development opportunities during a spring or fall semester. The professional development opportunities may include a combination of synchronous or asynchronous workshops, webinars, or trainings offered by any KSU center or division. However, at least one of the professional development opportunities must be offered by the KSU Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL), and neither of the professional development opportunities may include an existing micro-credential. When attending a professional development opportunity offered outside of CETL, learners must submit proof of attendance. In some cases, learners may be asked to submit the workshop title, offering unit, and a brief description about how the professional development opportunity addresses a NEST practice.
  • Prepare a brief implementation plan (approximately 100 to 200 words) describing how they will engage in at least one Expanding the NEST practice explored during the professional development opportunities. (If participants are reflecting on a NEST practice already implemented or used in their courses, they must demonstrate how they will enhance that practice based on the professional development received.) The implementation plan must address the following prompts:
o Which Expanding the NEST practice(s) do you plan to implement and/or modify in your course?
o What is the course name, and how will the practice be implemented or modified?
o Based on the lessons learned during a KSU professional development opportunity, how do you anticipate this practice will impact student-faculty interactions, effective teaching practices, and/or the supportive environment in your course?

To submit the implementation plan and proof of attendance, learners must:

  • Complete the Expanding the NEST questionnaire. There, learners may upload an implementation plan and proof of attendance. The implementation plan must be submitted during the same semester the professional development opportunities were attended.
