SOCM - 201 Speech OlympicsThe Speech Skills Badge may be earned by any KSU student who participates in the 2022 Speech Olympics, a college spotlight event as part of KSU’s Year of Greece country of study program through the Divison of Global Affairs. This year’s event is sponsored by the School of Communication and Media in the Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences in partnership with the KSU Libraries. The Speech Olympics offers students the opportunity to learn about the origins of rhetoric and the importance of strong argumentation, while also giving them the opportunity to practice delivering impromptu and persuasive presentations. Earning Criteria: Learners will work through modules on building strong arguments and delivering effective speeches the week leading up to the event. On the day of the event, students will attend an informative lecture by Todd Harper, KSU professor of English, on the origins of rhetoric, and also participate in two different hands-on events - impromptu speaking and persuasive speaking.
