GWST 3080 - Masculinity Studies3 Class Hours 0 Laboratory Hours 3 Credit Hours Prerequisite: ENGL 1102. Masculinities Studies is an interdisciplinary introduction to this growing and often contested field. Using a variety of texts, students explore historical, political, and theoretical development, as well as social and cultural constructions, of the category “masculinity.” Students map central debates surrounding masculinity, including why it is frequently thought to be “in crisis.” The course examines political and social movements related to masculinity as it considers masculinity in relation to other theories, including feminist, postcolonial, etc.
