Program Description
The Community Sport Minor prepares students to lead, manage, and promote sport and recreation programs designed to serve local communities. Coursework emphasizes youth sport structures, recreation programming, event and facility management, and applied professional skills. This minor is designed for students from a wide range of disciplines-such as education, human services, business, and health sciences-who wish to integrate community sport leadership into their career pathways.
This minor provides students with foundational and applied skills for organizing, managing, and promoting community and youth sport programs. The program emphasizes leadership, facility and event management, youth sport development, and professional skills relevant to sport organizations. Students completing the minor are prepared to support careers in municipal recreation, nonprofit organizations, youth sport leagues, and other community-based sport initiatives.
Program Student Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this program will be able to:
- Demonstrate understanding of community and youth sport structures, programming, and governance.
- Apply leadership and management skills in the planning and delivery of community sport and recreation activities.
- Demonstrate professional skills in communication, teamwork, and problem-solving applicable to community sport and recreation settings.
This program is a part of the Wellstar College of Health and Human Services .

Admissions, Enrollment, & Graduation Criteria
Admissions Criteria
In addition to meeting the general admissions requirements to Kennesaw State University, students must also meet the following criteria:
- Completion of SM 2100 : Introduction to Sport Management with a grade of “C” or higher.
Enrollment Criteria
This program does not have specific enrollment criteria; however, students are expected to meet the requirements of Academic Policy 4.0 ACADEMIC STANDING, DISMISSAL, & REINSTATEMENT .
Graduation Criteria
Each student is expected to meet the requirements outlined in Academic Policy 5.0 PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS & GRADUATION .
