Program Description

There are two tracks in the Instructional Technology EDS. The initial certification track prepares educators to integrate technology into their own teaching and to assist other educators in using technology to improve teaching and learning. The advanced track prepares candidates to lead technology programs. After completing the Initial Certification track and passing the Instructional Technology GACE, candidates holding a T5 Georgia teaching certificate are eligible to upgrade to a T6 and also earn an S-6 (service field) in Instructional Technology. The Advanced track increases a T-5 to a T-6 and a S-5 in Instructional Technology to a S-6.

Admission Requirements

The following are requirements beyond the general KSU Graduate Admissions  requirements.

  • An earned master’s degree in professional education or a related field;
  • A teaching certificate or departmentally-approved equivalent (for non-Georgia or non-certified individuals). The Department of Instructional Technology recognizes and appreciates that many independent schools and 21st century learning environments do not require educators to hold traditional state teaching certification. In such instances, the Department will make a case-by-case determination as to whether the educator’s qualifications are sufficiently equivalent to a traditional teaching certificate and/or whether the educator has the background necessary to ensure successful completion of the program.
  • At least three years of professional teaching or administrative experience or both in P-12 education (current full-time employment as a professional educator is preferred because field experiences are required)

Admission Criteria for Unique Cases

Currently there are no exceptions to the admission requirements.

Transfer Credit

The program will consider transfer credit for similar courses that were not used to obtain another degree.  Candidates will submit transfer credit request form, course descriptions, syllabi, and transcripts. After acceptance into the program, ITEC Department Curriculum Committee will examine materials to determine if transfer credit will be granted.

Petition to Graduate

Each candidate must petition to graduate online. For more information, please view the corresponding section of Academic Policies .
