PSYC 4402: Directed Study: Research Experience 1-3 Credit Hours
Prerequisite: Approval of the instructor, and approval of the department chair, and minimum GPA of 3.00. Description: This directed study offers students hands-on research experience in psychology. Under the guidance of a faculty member, students engage in activities that promote research in the field of psychology and align with the faculty member’s area(s) of expertise. Students explore a variety of topics related to psychological research. Potential topics include research design and methodology, literature review, data collection, data analysis, research ethics, lab techniques and equipment, collaboration and teamwork, and communication of scientific findings.
Course Learning Outcomes Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of research design and methodologies used in psychological research.
- Identify and review psychological literature to support research projects.
- Apply critical thinking to analyze research methodologies, interpret results, and/or troubleshoot challenges encountered during the research process.
- Assist in data collection, data organization and processing, and/or the analysis of data.
- Recognize and adhere to ethical guidelines in psychological research.
