POLS 3380: Media and Politics

Prerequisite: POLS 1101 
Description:
Examines the intersection of media and politics. Emphasis is placed on the role of various types of media and forms of communication in political processes and systems in the United States, as well as in other democratic and non-democratic societies. 


Course Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:

  1. Describe the relationship between the media and politics from normative, theoretical, empirical, historical, and legal perspectives.
  2. Describe and evaluate the relationship between the media and the people, institutions, and processes of American government.
  3. Identify and describe central themes and concepts in political communication.
  4. Apply key concepts to analyze media and politics.
  5. Create substantive content and constructively engage with others regarding perspectives on media and politics.
