FIN 3100: Principles of Finance 3 Credit Hours
Prerequisite: (Grades of “B” or higher in ACCT 2101 and (ECON 2300 or ECON 2400 )), or Admission to Coles College Professional Program, or Admission as a Coles Partner Student Description: An introductory course designed to develop knowledge of the basic concepts, principles, and functions of managerial finance. Topics include the time value of money, valuation of bonds and stocks, financial analysis, working capital management, capital budgeting, and capital structure strategies.
Course Learning Outcomes Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
- Understanding the goal of the corporation and how it raises capital.
- Applying time value of money concepts to value financial and real assets.
- Performing financial statement analysis.
- Measuring and interpreting risk and return.
- Evaluating investment opportunities using capital budgeting techniques.
- Computing cost of capital and making financing decisions.
- Managing resources to maximize value creation.
- Examining stock and bond markets as sources of external capital.
- Leveraging technology in financial decision-making.
