WLED 6650: Yearlong Clinical Experience I

3 Credit Hours
Prerequisite: GaPSC Pre-Service Certificate and Admission to Yearlong Clinical Experience.
Concurrent: EDUC 6610 
This course is the first semester of an intensive and extensive co-teaching yearlong clinical experience in world language education. Under the guidance of a collaborating teacher and university supervisor and working in a classroom environment that includes students with exceptionalities, candidates practice professional competencies that impact student achievement. This experience includes regularly scheduled professional seminars.

Course Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to: 

  1. Demonstrate mastery of the language content and cultural knowledge applicable to successful P-12 world language teaching.
  2. Plan, implement, and evaluate world language lessons that meet the needs of diverse learners and students with special needs.
  3. Choose, adapt, and coordinate materials, technology, and methods to enhance language acquisition and cultural understanding.
  4. Develop a classroom environment that fosters language immersion and supports the success of all learners.
  5. Utilize various types of assessment instruments common in world language instruction, including formative, summative, and performance-based assessments, to evaluate and interpret student progress and use those assessments to inform instructional decisions and provide constructive feedback.
  6. Apply current language teaching standards, such as the ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) Standards, state-specific language standards, and recent research to guide teaching and curriculum development.
  7. Engage in ongoing reflection and self-assessment to refine instructional practices and enhance language teaching effectiveness.
  8. Exhibit professional behavior and a collaborative, collegial work ethic; communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues in ways that support language learning and intercultural competence.
  9. Provide students with opportunities to acquire the linguistic skills, cultural knowledge, and intercultural competencies necessary to become proficient and engaged global citizens.
