POLS 4447: Arctic Politics, Policy, and Security in a Changing Environment 3 Credit Hours
Prerequisite: POLS 1101 As the Arctic region warms, new issues are confronting the region and states that border it. This course examines human, environmental, energy, and traditional security challenges facing the Arctic states and the world. Such challenges include the consequences of renewed Great Power competition, territorial disputes, apparent militarization, rapid environmental change, and significant new investments in energy development and transit/shipping routes. The course evaluates existing multinational legal and political architecture that may help ameliorate such problems.
