LING 3035: Understanding Language and Linguistics 3 Credit Hours
Prerequisite: ENGL 1102 This course analyzes the nature of human language. It surveys a variety of major subfields in linguistics, which may include phonology, morphology, syntax, discourse, and semantics. A heavy emphasis is placed on the social and pedagogical implications of modern linguistic theory, which includes an examination of issues such as Standard English, language acquisition, and variation in registers and dialects.
