ANTH 3340: Religion, Magic, and Culture 3 Credit Hours
Prerequisite: ANTH 3307 This course examines the anthropological approach to religion and magic, which privileges local religious experiences and practices and places them in socio-cultural context. This course encourages students to consider the roles that religions play within broader adaptive systems, and how religions alternately promote both cultural stability and cultural change. Cosmologies, religious systems, and magical systems of thought are explored from an anthropological perspective.
