SOCI 4435:Sociology of South Asia3 Class Hours 0 Laboratory Hours 3 Credit Hours This course examines social change and development in the South Asian societies through a historically informed analysis of social institutions in the region. Some of the key themes explored include contested histories, identity politics and nationalism, democratization, growth, poverty, and inequality. The course includes case studies from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, but its main focus is on India.
