DLI - 306 Online Communication, Empathy & Constructive FeedbackFaculty and instructional staff at KSU will work in the workshop area for this activity and create a Communication Plan document and a Feedback Plan document and upload it in the assignment section of the workshop. They will also work on the announcement and email tools in D2L to create welcome announcements and emails drafts for their course. The Communication Plan must include:
1. Frequency of communication with students
2. Learners must choose at least 4 different methods for communication from the list: Announcement, Emails, Virtual Office Hours, Synchronous Meetings, Video and/or audio messages, Discussion forums etc.
The Feedback Plan must include a feedback schedule for all Quizzes, Discussions, Assignments and Discussions in a word document. All activities in the course must be backed up by a Feedback plan. participants can choose any format or modality for feedback: synchronous/asynchronous/emails (group or individual)/videos/audio messages/Generic announcements or individual plans for feedback.
Once participants are enrolled in the workshop, they will be going through the workshop content and resources and complete activities in the assessment area for the third module. They will be developing a communication plan document and a feedback plan document for the course that they plan to teach in the near future. The workshop content and resources will guide them through the pedagogy related to Instructor presence which is based on the Community of Inquiry Framework and promotes social, teaching and cognitive presence in an online teaching and learning environment.
The learning outcomes covered for this badge are as follows. Participants will learn about the Community of Inquiry framework, encouragement and empathy for building relationships in an online course, and be able to:
- Create a communication plan for the course they plan to teach
- Create a Feedback plan for Quizzes, Discussions, Assignments and Discussions
- Reflect on the importance of encouragement, empathy, communication and timely feedback for online instructor presence
Earning Criteria: Learners will demonstrate their skills related to Online Communication through a Communication Plan document which must be uploaded it in the assignment section of the workshop. It should include details about the frequency of communication and at least 4 methods of communication must be listed.
Learners will demonstrate their skills related to Constructive Feedback through a feedback Plan document which must be uploaded it in the assignment section of the workshop. It should include details about feedback that will follow each activity or assessment and the method for the feedback must be mentioned - synchronous/asynchronous/emails (group or individual)/videos/audio messages/Generic announcements or individual plans for feedback.
Learners will also participate in a reflective discussion which focusses on the importance of empathy, constructive feedback and online communication in an online teaching and learning environment.
