DLI - 309 Using the Desire2Learn LMS 2022

Faculty and instructional staff at KSU will be the primary audience for this workshop where they will learn to use various tools like - Discussions, Announcements, Email, learning analytics, and features like Adding Modules, uploading files, audio/video, Editing Web Pages, widgets etc. in the D2L LMS. In the process, they will be developing part of a course that they will be teaching in an upcoming semester in the Sandbox assigned to them.

Once participants are enrolled in the workshop, they will be going through the workshop content and resources and complete activities in the Sandbox and the assessment area in the workshop. They will be exploring different tools and various editing features related to Discussions, Quizzes, Content creation by adding modules, html pages and files related to documents, audio and videos, widgets, editing web pages, drafting emails in D2L, and Learning Analytics. As the Online Course embodies both pedagogical and technical skills, participants will be developing a part of a course that they plan to teach in the near future. The workshop content and resources will guide them through the pedagogy and the videos and articles, and lecture content will provide them with directions to develop components like the Start Module, writing objectives, instructor introduction, uploading the syllabus, other documents, videos, and audio files, accessing learning analytics data, and editing the html pages in D2L, during this process.

The learning outcomes covered for this badge are as follows. Participants will be able to:

  1. Use various D2L tools to create modules, html pages, upload files and create discussion forums and topics
  2. Create an instructor Introduction page for an upcoming course in their Sandbox in D2L
  3. Upload an accessible Syllabus for an upcoming course in their Sandbox in D2L
  4. Create a discussion board in the Start Module for an upcoming course in their Sandbox in D2L
  5. Introduce themselves to the other participants in the workshop
  6. Use D2L tools to create a Module/Unit folder in D2L for their course
  7. Create a draft for a Welcome email for students
  8. Access the learning analytics feature in D2L to monitor learner performance and participation for D2L tools (like Discussions and Quizzes).

Earning Criteria: Learners will demonstrate their Desire2Learn and pedagogical skills by adding Modules (Start Module, a Unit /Module for content), Creating html files for Course Objectives and Instructor introduction, Uploading a Syllabus file for the course, Creating an introductory space in the Discussions area, Creating a Welcome announcement for the course, Drafting a welcome email for the students in D2L, Learning to explore the learning analytics tools in D2L.
