CSM - 101 Laboratory Safety Technician  The ‘Laboratory Safety Technician’ micro-credential is awarded to learners that complete a series of laboratory safety seminars dedicated to promoting knowledge of laboratory safety and philosophy as a practicing safety professional. Earning Criteria: To earn this micro-credential, learners must:
- Demonstrate laboratory safety by attending all safety training seminars. Topics include: Introduction, Legal Concerns, Regulations for New Lab Personnel; General Chemical Laboratory Safety; Biological Hazards and Autoclave Use; Spill Awareness; Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals; Chemical Storage and Hazardous Waste; Compressed Cylinders, Ventilation, Fire Safety; and Electrical Safety. Each seminar is approximately 1 hour long.
- Pass a comprehensive exam (70% or better) within a two-year period from signing up for the program. The exam contains 2-3 questions per seminar topic related to knowledge of safety practices and a series of scenarios to test safety perception and mindset.
