CSM - 201 Laboratory Safety TechnicianThe Laboratory Safety Technician Badge Level I would be awarded to those individuals that attend a series of laboratory safety seminars.
The students will gain knowledge of laboratory safety and philosophy as a practicing safety professional.
The seminar topics are:
- Introduction, Legal Concerns, Regulations for New Lab Personnel
- General Chemical Laboratory Safety
- Biological Hazards and Autoclave Use
- Spill Awareness
- Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals
- Chemical Storage and Hazardous Waste
- Compressed Cylinders
- Ventilation
- Fire Safety
- Electrical Safety
The seminars are offered every semester at multiple times and students sign up and attend as their schedule allows. They are not part of any for-credit classes and are each about 1 hour long. The end of the series would require an exam, testing their knowledge of the safety practices as well as a safety mindset on the topic of laboratory safety. The training classes do not require any additional costs for the student. Earning Criteria: Learners demonstrate laboratory safety by attending all safety training seminars within a 2 year period and passing a comprehensive exam (70% or better) within a two year period from signing up for the program. The exam contains 2-3 questions per seminar with some questions of scenarios to test safety perception and mindset.
