ARH 3320:Ancient Near Eastern Art and Architecture3 Class Hours 0 Laboratory Hours 3 Credit Hours Prerequisite: ARH 2750 and ENGL 1102 This course is a survey of the art and archaeology of the ancient Near East (now the Middle East), from the 4th millennium BCE through the 7th century CE. It examines a range of media in their social, political, and intellectual contexts. It also explores issues such as cultural interaction; political art of ancient empires; gender, ethnicity, and identity; the definition of the “Near East”; Biblical archaeology; and heritage management (especially in times of conflict).
