BIOL 6100:Molecular Genetics2 Class Hours 3 Laboratory Hours 3 Credit Hours Prerequisite: Admission and enrollment in the Master of Science in Integrative Biology program, or permission of the coordinator of the graduate program; a grade of “C” or better in BIOL 3300 or equivalent. This course covers molecular genetics theory and practice, including gene structure and function, genetic engineering, and bioinformatics. Areas of emphasis will include DNA structure, replication, and manipulation, and gene expression. Biotechnology laboratory exercises will include creating recombinant DNA, gene mapping, DNA sequencing, DNA sequence analysis, and polymerase chain reaction applications.
