EDUC 7700 - Reflective Inquiry

3 Class Hours 0 Laboratory Hours 3 Credit Hours
Prerequisite: Admission to the M.Ed. program.
In this seminar for Masters’ programs in Secondary or Middle Grades Education, students are introduced to current issues in education, including research-based practice, advocacy, change agency, and the use of assessment to improve instruction. Students learn how to locate and identify quality research, especially related to teacher effectiveness, dispositions, and reflection. Students become familiar with the Interstate Teacher and Assessment Support Consortium (InTASC, 2011) professional standards for the learner and learning, content knowledge, instructional practice, and professional responsibility, as well as professional standards for writing and making presentations. Course assessments initiate a program-long process of student assessment of professional growth by means of a diversity survey, a dispositions instrument, and preparation for the capstone project.
